Leo and Josh Malatino

Leo and Josh Malatino are a father and son duo with a windy Deaf Bonce build. Leo got into car audio in his early 20s, passing on his love for car audio to Josh when he was old enough to drive. They do not currently compete but hope to in the near future. Their best score to date on the glass is 160.5 dB at 47 Hz and 163.8 dB at 46 Hz in the kick. They both prefer demoing over competing as they do give out demos at every single show they go to. Josh loves handing out demos to people and making them smile, “A simple demo can make someone’s whole day.” Josh’s goal is to build his name in the car audio scene, become an influencer, provide content for the basshead community, and test out different audio brands.

2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Leo and Josh’s build is currently in a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. They chose to build in the Jeep because “Let’s be honest, who walls off an almost brand new car?”

Electrical

The electrical currently consists of 280 Ah of XS Power LTO cells. The XS Power LTO cells have become one of the most popular choices in the car audio industry. They have many advantages over other types of lithium including: faster charging, wider operating temperature (especially cool), longer lifespan, safety, and stability. These cells are paired with a single Singer 290 A alternator. The wiring throughout the build consists of 1/0 Deaf Bonce OFC.

XS Power LTO Cell Specifications:

  • Nominal Voltage: 2.3 V
  • Rated Capacity: 40 Ah
  • Volume-Energy Density: 128 Wh/L
  • Internal Resistance: ≤ 0.5 mΩ
  • Maximum Continous Charge Current: 240 A
  • 10s Maximum Pulse Charge/Discharge Current: 400 A
  • Operating and Storage Temperature Range: -50-65 °C
  • Wattage Rating
    • 100 A Alternator: 4,000 W
    • 200 A Alternator: 5,000 W
    • 300 A Alternator: 6,000 W
